GUYSBOROUGH – The Guysborough Journal received an anonymous tip on Oct. 6 that a home invasion had occurred in the Town of Mulgrave earlier in the week, sending four people to hospital, two with serious injuries.
Inquiries to the Nova Scotia RCMP media liaison received a reply via email on the morning of Oct. 7.
Cpl. Chris Marshall, provincial public information officer, provided the following statement: “On October 1, 2022, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Inverness County District RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion on Tower Rd. in Mulgrave. RCMP officers learned that two men had forced their way into the home and assaulted four people, before fleeing the area. RCMP officers collected evidence at the scene and all four victims were transported to St. Martha’s hospital by ambulance for treatment. Two of the victims suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and two of the victims suffered minor injuries.”
The email went on to say that two men were arrested on Oct. 5: Craig Edward Ryan, 51, and Craig Evan Ryan, 23, both of Mulgrave. They were charged with Aggravated Assault; Assault Causing Bodily Harm; Assault (2 counts); Break and Enter and Commit and Mischief (3 counts). The pair appeared in court in Port Hawkesbury on Oct. 6 and were released on conditions.
The Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service supplied a list of the conditions to The Journal on Tuesday (Oct. 11); they include but are not limited to: obey a curfew and be in the place of residence between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. except for employment purposes; prohibited possession or consumption of alcohol, illicit drugs or prescription drugs without a valid prescription; prohibition to go near or enter Tower Road, Mulgrave for any reason; and prohibited to possess any firearm, cross-bow, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device, ammunition, prohibited ammunition and explosive substance.
In a subsequent news release issued later in the day on Oct. 7, the RCMP noted that a group of men were involved in the home invasion and attack and that, “RCMP officers are continuing their efforts to identify the rest of the men that were involved in the home invasion. Officers are also aware of a video of the incident that is circulating within the community.”
The two men charged are scheduled to return to Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on Monday, Oct. 31.
